FAQ
Helpful Answers and Information For Some of our Most Asked Questions

What issues can you help with?
We support a wide range of concerns including, anxiety and stress, low mood or depression, self esteem and identity, grief and loss, relationships and social challenges, school or work related stress and more.
You don't need to have a "serious" issue to reach out.
Why is the cost lower than other services?
Our model is based on counsellors and coaches intentionally giving back. They offer part of their time at a reduced rate to make support more accessible. This allows more people to access help without the usual financial barriers.
Is Gentle Mental suitable for young people?
Yes. We support young people, particularly those who may benefit from a gentle and approachable introduction to counselling or coaching.
For younger clients, parental or guardian consent may be required depending on age and circumstances.
How long does a typical session last?
Sessions are flexible and tailored to your needs, available in 30, 60 or 90 minute options.
Is this a replacement for a psychologist or clinical service?
Our No. Gentle Mental is not a clinical or diagnostic service. We do not provide assessments, diagnosis or medical treatment. We are best suited for early support, ongoing conversations, personal growth and reflection.
If a higher level of care is needed, we encourage seeking support from a psychologist, GP or mental health service.

How do I know if this service is a good fit?
Gentle Mental is a good fit if you're looking for a gentle, low pressure place to start, someone to talk to regularly, support without long waitlists or high costs.
It may not be the right fit if you need urgent, clinical or crisis based support.

What happens in a session?
Sessions are conversational and person-centred. This means you set the space, talk about what matters to you, the counsellor or coach listens, asks questions and can offer guidance.
There is no pressure to share anything you're not ready to discuss.

Is this service confidential?
Yes. We provide a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental space. All sessions are confidential within legal and ethical boundaries, including situations where there may be a risk of harm.
How are sessions delivered?
Sessions are conducted via online or telephone.
How often should sessions be booked?
Sessions can be booked as required, usually on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis.
What qualifications do the counsellors and coaches have?
Our staff are trained and experienced across a range of mental health and support associated degrees and related disciplines. They are selected not only for their qualifications, but for their ability to provide thoughtful, compassionate and grounded support.
